Great result for Twitter

In the past year Twitter says more that 25 billion tweets have been sent in the past year what with global events such as the FIFA World Cup or the Gulf Oil spill being amongst the top tweets. It also claims more than 95 million tweets are sent now every day. The top trending topic on Twitter in 2010 has been BP’s oil spill with FIFA World Cup 2nd, followed closely in 3rd with the Leonardo DiCaprio movie ‘Inception.’ Other trends include the Apple iPad, Haiti earthquake and teen pop star Justin Bieber also featuring in the top 10.

Twitter identified all the leading trends into 8 categories;

  • News events
  • People
  • Movies
  • TV
  • Technology
  • World Cup
  • Sports
  • HashTags
