Blackberry if you’re reading… SORT YOUR SHIT OUT.

When I first got a Blackberry I hated it. Despised having one. But I had to. For work. Although I was happy with my LG KF750 the thought of owning one and turning into a city type revolted me. ‘Email on a phone. Are you for real? I have a life don’t you know.’ That was a time when I didn’t do social. Yeah I had a Facebook account, a MySpace account (I was cool), I hadn’t cracked onto Twitter yet, but socialising with friends via text was way cooler than emailing them about it.

Funny how times have changed. Now I can’t live without my Blackberry. It’s like a part of my body that I can’t bear thinking I’d not have. The thought of not owning my Blackberry scares me shitless. So much so that I’ve shed tears (real water) tears. When my Blackberry was stolen a few weeks back I cried day and night over it. Cried. Tears of pure and utter devastation for not having my Blackberry anymore. Even more so that some dipshit had nicked it. How dare they. Two weeks without a phone was nightmarish. But not as bad as getting a new Blackberry, falling ever so much in love with it again then lo and behold, Blackberry reports it’s crashed.

A couple of days ago, a major service disruption was reported by Blackberry. The problem has continued till today causing just about everyone to send a whole lot of #hashtag abuse to RIM (Research In Motion) and BlackBerry on Twitter as well as other social mediums telling them their frustration. Blackberry have done very little to calm the public down. It’s caused outrage amongst many as internet is down as well as BBM (Blackberry messenger) and email is down. Canadian BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) acknowledged the outage quickly, it took 36 hours to further elaborate on what caused the problem. “The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed.” The outage – first effecting users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East – eventually spread to include 10 million users worldwide, with many users still reporting service disruptions. Alastair Campbell offered some free advice on Twitter: “Day 3 of Blackberry black-out. Some free advice. Explain while you fix. Apologise when you have. Recompense after. Handling so far woeful.” Lord Alan Sugar also chipped in, tweeting: “Seem BB’s still down. Massive damage to their image. Corporate users must be going bananas.” The Blackberry outage is the latest slip-up for the smartphone maker. In recent months, RIM saw sales decline for smartphones, their once market-dominating Blackberry line now struggling to remain competitive in a market flooded by sleeker Android-powered smartphones and iPhones. In addition, its Playbook tablet smacked the brick wall known as iPad upon release, leading to price slashing a la HP.

Now I know for a fact they haven’t sorted it. I can at least I suppose breathe a sign of relief I can call and text but the fact I can’t tweet, Facebook or send an email is peeving me off beyond belief. It’s even worse when all the iPhone users out there are taking the complete mick and rubbing salt into the wound that they can use their phones whilst we cannot. I find it ridiculous that Blackberry haven’t set up a phone line of some sort or a press release that reads better than the crap they’re posting online at the moment.

So Blackberry if you’re reading, sort your shit out. I can’t be dealing with this shit anymore.
